It’s funny and fitting that from the lowly Rock Pigeon, we’ve carved beautiful new species Nature wouldn’t have. This zine profiles a handful of these breeds and their almost unreal histories.

The Crested Helmet. The Saxon Monk. The Fairy Swallow. The Jacobin. The Bokhara Trumpeter.

They’re all impractical franken-birds, half a celebration of science, half an insult to natural selection’s elegance. If anything, these breeds, made for nothing but beauty, are proof that we value this bird more than we let on.
